Seeing Starlett Chapter 1

So, today's the day. I can't believe it's been a year. This summer is going to be hard on me, I can tell you that. Ever since my best friend, Starlett, died, I feel like a part of me is missing. It all started when she was driving to the yacht club with her brother, Brandon, who is sixteen. Actually, she's sixteen too, and so am I, but he never let her drive. When the traffic light turned green, he drove, but so did one of the other cars at the intersection. The other car was going full speed, and the impact killed her instantly. Starlett, well, her real name is Scarlett, but she loved the stars, so I called her Starlett, was always so innocent. She didn't deserve what happened to her. I listen to people saying all the time that everything happens for a reason, but nothing good could possibly come out of this. Anyway, today is the aniversery of her death, and I feel terrible. I can almost hear her cheerful voice calling my name, saying,"Come on Amber, why won't you come to the pool with me this Saturday? You just want to sit at home and read all the time. Have some fun for once!" "I can't," I would say,"I really want to finish this book! Just call me Sunday and you might be able to come over." I said that every week, when Scarlett wanted to go swimming and I wanted to read. She called me every Sunday and came over to my house. Her loud voice always filled the house, but when Sunday came and she didn't call, I knew something was wrong. Ever since I found out, all that I hear is the sound of silence. All day long I hear that dreadful sound, the eerieness of it making you want to run and hide, get away from all the troubles in the world, but no matter what, you can't escape it. You just can't.
